Counselling Terms
1. Counselling agreement
Last updated: 1 July 2026
1.1 These counselling terms (Terms) set out the basis on which Moffat Kago (I, me or your counsellor) provides counselling sessions to you. By booking a session, you agree to these Terms.
1.2 Counselling is a professional relationship between you and me as an individual counsellor. I bring my training, experience and ethical responsibilities; you bring your willingness to explore what matters to you. The pace and focus of our work is something we agree together.
2. Sessions and fees
2.1 Sessions last [SESSION LENGTH] and are held [IN PERSON AT PRACTICE ADDRESS / ONLINE BY SECURE VIDEO CALL], as agreed with you.
2.2 The fee per session is [SESSION FEE]. Payment is due [PAYMENT TERMS, e.g. at the time of booking / before each session].
2.3 Fees may change from time to time. I will give you reasonable notice of any change before it takes effect.
3. Cancellation and missed sessions
3.1 If you need to cancel or rearrange a session, please give at least [CANCELLATION NOTICE, e.g. 48 hours] notice.
3.2 Sessions cancelled with less notice, or missed without notice, may be charged in full, because that time has been reserved for you.
4. Confidentiality
4.1 What you share in counselling is confidential. I will not disclose it to anyone without your consent, except in the limited circumstances below.
4.2 I may break confidentiality where I reasonably believe there is a serious risk of harm to you or another person, where I am required to do so by law, or where disclosure is necessary to prevent a serious crime. Wherever possible, I will discuss this with you first.
4.3 In line with good practice, I discuss my counselling work in professional supervision. My supervisor is also bound by confidentiality, and I take care to protect your identity.
4.4 I keep brief, secure notes of our work. You have rights over this information, which are explained in my Privacy Policy.
5. Boundaries of the work
5.1 Counselling is not a crisis or emergency service. If you are in crisis or need urgent help, please use the emergency contacts listed in my Disclaimer.
5.2 Our relationship is a professional one. To keep it safe and effective, contact between sessions is limited to arranging appointments or sharing agreed practical information. I do not connect with clients on personal social media.
5.3 I am unable to work with clients while they are under the influence of alcohol or non-prescribed drugs.
6. Ending our work
6.1 You are free to end counselling at any time. Where possible, I encourage us to have a final session to reflect on the work and bring it to a considered close.
6.2 I may also, with care and notice, suggest ending or referring you elsewhere if I believe another form of support would serve you better.
7. Professional standards
7.1 I work in accordance with the ethical framework of [PROFESSIONAL BODY], and I hold professional indemnity insurance. If you have concerns about our work, please raise them with me first so we can address them together.
7.2 If a concern cannot be resolved between us, you may contact [PROFESSIONAL BODY / COMPLAINTS CONTACT] for guidance about their complaints process.
8. Contact
8.1 To discuss these Terms or your sessions, please contact me at [CONTACT EMAIL].
