Leaving Work Stress at Work

Stress does not always end when work ends
Many people leave the office or close the laptop, but still feel mentally at work. You might replay a difficult meeting, worry about tomorrow, or feel guilty for resting.
This can make evenings feel less like recovery and more like a waiting room for the next demand.
Boundaries are practical, not selfish
A boundary is not a wall. It is a clear signal about what you can carry and when you are available. This may include a shutdown routine, clearer communication, or noticing when you are taking responsibility for things outside your role.
Good boundaries often feel uncomfortable at first, especially if you are used to being the person who absorbs pressure.
Recovery needs repetition
Small repeated practices are usually more realistic than a complete life reset. A short walk, a transition ritual, or a no-work window can help your body learn that the day has ended.
Counselling can support you to understand the emotional hooks that make work hard to put down.
